The Laugavegur is Iceland’s best-known multi-day highland route, linking the geothermal landscapes of Landmannalaugar with the green valley of Þórsmörk over roughly 55 km. Most hikers take 3–4 days between mountain huts.

It’s a self-guided hut-to-hut trek rather than a wilderness epic: waymarked, busy in peak season, and still serious about weather, river crossings and booking huts early. Many people continue over Fimmvörðuháls afterward — treat that as an optional extension, not the same trail.
