Rainbow Mountain Itinerary: Cusco Day Hike

The classic Cusipata day route is a 5 km round trip to 5,200 m — most of the "itinerary" is acclimatising in Cusco before a brutal 4 a.m. pickup. Lee used Rainbow Mountain as altitude prep before a longer Peru trek.

Recommended trip shape (4–5 days)

Day 1	Fly to Cusco — rest, light walking in the historic centre
Day 2	Acclimatise —Sacsayhuamán or Sacred Valley (low exertion)
Day 3	Acclimatise — short walks, hydrate, coca tea
Day 4	Rainbow Mountain day hike — pre-dawn pickup
Day 5	Buffer / travel to next trek (e.g. Inca Trail)

13:00–14:00	Back at trailhead
16:00–17:00	Return to Cusco

Total hiking: ~2–3 hours up, 1–2 hours down (fitness and altitude dependent).

Season notes
