Ben Nevis is a single summit day on the Mountain Track — not a multi-day trek, but timing still matters. Lee wished he'd started earlier; mid-morning meant crowds and less summit-view window.

Route overview
Mountain Track (Tourist Path) — the standard and safest route:
- Visitor Centre → Glen Nevis valley path
- Steady climb through switchbacks
- Rocky upper section and plateau
- Summit trig point and ruins
- Same path down
Alternative routes (CMD Arete, Tower Ridge) are for experienced climbers only — not covered here.
Weather buffer
If forecast is poor, delay a day rather than push into whiteout. Lee hit ice and minimal visibility on the upper mountain even in season.
After the hike
- Pub meal in Fort William (Lee's reward)
- Optional second night if legs are done
- Combine with Skye Trail or Ben Lomond on a Highlands road trip
Booking checklist
- Accommodation booked (peak summer fills)
- MWIS + Met Office checked morning of hike
- Car park cash/card ready
- Offline map downloaded
- Tell someone your expected return time
