Day highlights
Day 1 — Rock formations & Germany
Forest solitude, famous sandstone, brutal midday heat (30°C+). Detour to riverside campsite for beer and lunch. Cross into Germany at Moersdorf — showers and German food at camp.
Day 2 — Grind day
More exposed farmland, less forest magic. Back to Echternach — bigger tent from car, town meal and rehydration.
Day 3 — Best scenery returns
Dense forest, narrow rock squeezes, drone crash into a tree. Consdorf hiker cabin — restaurant on site.
Day 4 — Longest day
Morning mist in forest. Larochette café (sushi, cocktails). Pushed 2.5 km past Larochette to campsite with pool when local site required 2-night cabin minimum.
Day 5 — Short & scenic
Easy stage to Beaufort Castle. No cabin campsites — youth hostel and bar evening.
Day 6 — Suspension bridges finale
Early start with bakery croissants. Suspension bridges, busiest day on trail (still quiet vs Alps). Finished in rain — skipped final camp, drove to Vianden.
Planning tips
- Start early in summer — beat midday heat
- Book accommodation — especially July–August
- Allow 4–6 days for full trail; Lee took 6 with a Day 0 arrival
- Fall (Lee's season) — autumn colours, cooler hiking
