Getting to the Giants Cup Trail: Pholela & Bushman's Nek

The Giants Cup is a one-way Drakensberg traverse — start at Pholela (Giants Castle area), finish at Bushman's Nek. Berg roads are slow and remote; shuttle logistics need sorting before you book huts.

Getting to Pholela (start)

By car

Durban → N3 toward Harrismith → southern Berg access → Giants Castle / Pholela

• Arrive the day before Day 1 — last access roads are slow
• 4x2 usually fine in dry conditions; 4x4 shuttles sometimes needed on rough sections
• Collect Ezemvelo permits as instructed before starting

By air

Fly into Durban (DUR) or Johannesburg (JNB), then rent a car or book a Berg transfer to Underberg / Giants Castle.

Getting home from Bushman's Nek (finish)

Bushman's Nek is a remote pass on the Lesotho border side:
