Booking tips
Book ahead
Peak season (May–September) fills Rhine towns fast. We booked pet-friendly rooms for Joey — options narrow quickly.
Breakfast included
Most stays include Frühstück — saves time and money before 20 km days.
Rhine-view rooms
Worth requesting once — waking over the river in Linz or Andernach feels like a postcard.
Luggage logistics
Our model: drove from Amsterdam, parked near Bonn, hiked with daypacks, trained back to car at section end.
Alternative: Luggage transfer services exist on popular long-distance trails in Germany — research if hiking 21 stages without a car.
Ferry + hotel side
Day 5: hotel was across the Rhine from trail end — last ferry timing mattered. Book accommodation on the correct river bank or plan bridge route.
Pet-friendly stays
Joey hiked every stage with a carry bag for tired legs. Not every guesthouse accepts dogs — confirm when booking. Some offer dog bowls and welcome treats.
