Our Mission
First-hand hut-to-hut guides and planning tools — one walker, no content farm.
What we are trying to do
HikingWithLee is a one-person project (hi — I'm Lee). The mission is simple: help you plan a multi-day hike from notes, numbers and films taken on the actual route — not a content farm assembled from other blogs.
When I booked my first Alps hut weeks, I needed food, transport, refuges, packing, cost and difficulty in one linked cluster. I could not find that without forum archaeology. This site is the structure I wanted then.
What you should expect
| You get | You do not get |
|---|---|
| First-hand guides where I've walked the trail | Anonymous “top 10” listicles |
| Hut names, prices and booking links I used | Guaranteed current fees (always verify officially) |
| Trail films tied to written stages | Stock-photo inspiration posts |
| Planning tools built from real trip math | Commercial guiding or trip sales |
Bucket-list routes I have not hiked are labelled honestly — see European bucket list — so you can compare without mistaking research for beta.
Principles
- Walked beats researched — experience is explicit on every trek hub.
- Official sources win — park, hut and tourism sites override blog memory.
- Specific beats generic — rifugio half-board rules, SANParks permit windows, Swiss sector diversions; not “pack light and enjoy the journey.”
- Tools beside prose — calculators and builders so guides become checklists.
Who makes this
Just me: writer, filmmaker, software architect on weekdays. No fake editorial team, no inflated traffic charts — see about for the treks behind the guides.

Why HikingWithLee exists
I built this site so hikers can plan from first-hand route notes instead of scattered forum tabs. Every trek cluster aims to answer food, transport, accommodation, packing, cost and difficulty in one linked set — then point to tools when you are ready to pack and budget.
Principles
- Walked beats researched — I label experience clearly when I have completed a route
- Official sources first — park and tourism sites override blog memory
- Tools over opinions — calculators and builders beat vague "pack light" advice
External references
- Leave No Trace — minimum-impact hiking ethics
- YouTube — HikingWithLee — trail films that match the written guides
- Editorial policy — how recommendations are made on this site
How to use HikingWithLee
Start with a destination hub or trek overview when you know where you want to go. Each trek cluster includes food, transport, accommodation, packing, cost and difficulty guides so you are not piecing together logistics from random forum threads.
I link to official park and tourism sites wherever possible — permits, hut bookings and safety rules change faster than any blog can update. Treat my guides as a planning companion, then verify fees and regulations on primary sources before you pay for flights.
Planning workflow
- Pick a trek or day hike that matches your season and fitness
- Read the complete guide and watch any linked trail film
- Run the Packing List Builder and Trek Cost Calculator
- Book hard constraints (permits, huts, shuttles) before non-refundable flights
- Re-read satellite guides the week before departure
